I work with my clients from a person-centered, solution focused and strength based approach. Through the use a variety of different therapies and interventions that fit who you are, we will work to build and/or restore the you that you are meant to be!
Person Centered: To make any change, therapy has got to be about you. During our sessions together, we will focus on and discuss you.
Solution Focused: My perspective in therapy is that you did not necessarily cause your suffering. That being said, you have an opportunity and the ability to respond to your circumstances by learning ways to cope with the situations in your life and move forward.
Strength Based: I believe that everyone has strengths in them that can help them overcome their points of despair. Do you believe that too? I take a strength based approach in my work, helping you to discover or gain back the unique qualities that make you who you are!
ACT is a mindfulness-based behavioral therapy that assumes that all internal suffering comes from avoiding what is painful. This therapy attempts to gain control of your emotions. In this therapy, we focus on your values and goals while showing compassion to yourself.
CBT has proven to be very effective for those with difficultly overcoming life problems. CBT examines how thoughts and feelings are related to the behaviors that one engages in. CBT addresses automatic negative thoughts and challenges why you do what you do while also addressing the effectiveness of skills in your life.
CPT is a cognitive-based therapy that is specifically for those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This therapy looks at the trauma you experienced and the beliefs that have developed based on that trauma with the goal of symptom reduction.
Originally for the treatment of a particular personality disorder, DBT has become widely used to help treat a variety of mental health conditions. DBT helps people to develop skills in mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation and distress tolerance.
EMDR is a therapy that can specifically help those who are in emotional distress related to significantly stressful or traumatic events in their lives. This is a fairly quick acting therapy to help you to reprocess the memories and to ‘organize’ them into places in your brain where they will not have the same amount of ‘charge’ (think about a battery).
PE is a type of therapy that has been developed to help lessen the effects of a trauma by "exposure" to your memories. Through PE, you will respectfully approach your memories and work through them, while talking through them (talking activates the higher level thinking part of your brain which is turned off at the time of a trauma). An additional component of this therapy asks that you do tasks in your everyday life that you may otherwise avoid.

People often need help in order to recognize and utilize the ability they already have inside of themselves to heal - this is where a therapist can be helpful. A therapist can help you find the inner voice and pursue valued living in your life. Just because you are having difficultly in your life and in your relationships does not mean that there is something inherently wrong with you. The strategies that you have been using have been helpful for you for a time. (Your body and your brain do not spend energy using techniques that are not useful). However, the way that you have been living is not effective for you anymore. Helping you develop new strategies in life is what therapy is about!
Spirituality is an important component to many people's healing. Many individuals often come to therapy with a spiritual crises or with spiritual questions. If your beliefs have contributed to distress you have experienced and you would like for your faith to be a part of your therapy, together we can discuss how to integrate your faith practices into your healing process.
